the Matt and i went a-concerting last weekend, and it was really fucking awesome. the opening bands were just as good as the main two attractions. i was very impressed by Happy Body Slow Brain, and told one of their members i was gonna do a review on here, because i did think they were that amazing. so here it is!
obviously i'm not a professional reviewer of music (hell, i'm not a professional anything, these days), but when i find good bands, i just have to share.
Happy Body Slow Brain
i've heard similar bands described as "shoegaze," although i don't know exactly what that is. maybe you do. they describe themselves as progressive R&B.
you can check their songs out on youtube.
go to their website and buy the album! you will not regret it.
Zeches Marquise
if coheed & cambria ate mars volta, and played too much mario.
(believe it or not, that's actually a major compliment. in my head, anyway.)
Maps & Atlases
(wave mouse over the birds to find the other pages!)
muppets on crack. in the good way.
RX Bandits
if Sublime got a thousand times better, and joined a punk band.
it's their farewell tour, and these guys were so great.
during the show, one dude at front (i didn't see this, i was nearer the back of the room) was evidently making trouble. and the lead man, Matthew Embree, was awesome, as evidenced by the below (paraphrased) quote:
"don't be a tough guy, we don't need that shit here. have you ever heard anything about violence in our songs? don't bounce into women, getting into their space, being a tough guy. i will pay you to leave my show!"
more concerts should be this amazing.
